Community Organizations Awarded Grants
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County awarded $98,921.10 in Community Grants this quarter.
Beginning in 2023, The Community Foundation shifted to a Community Grants program. Nonprofit organizations have a wide-open door for applications instead of separate applications for multiple grants programs through the Foundation. Organizations interested in applying for funding are encouraged to connect with Foundation staff.
The flexibility of Community Grants allows the Foundation's Program and Nonprofit Relations team to develop a deeper understanding of the needs within the community. That knowledge enables Foundation staff and volunteers to connect nonprofits to resources and gives nonprofits more time to focus on their mission work.
The Board of Directors of The Community Foundation approved 12 Community Grants totaling $98,921.10 during the final quarter of 2023.
Beautification Committee of Albany, Ind. received $500 (from the Albany Fund in Memory of the Frazee Family) for a flower planter in downtown Albany.
Beyond Able Learning received $5,000 (from the Ross Family Fund) to support a program that provides special education students with internship and employment opportunities in the Digitial Animation Local Graduation Pathway.
Christian Ministries of Delaware County received $15,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, KAKATU Foundation/David and Joanna Meeks Fund, Mutual Legacy Fund, and Jim and Mary Rosema Fund) to provide utility and rent assistance to clients facing continued rising rent and utility costs.
Gaston Parks and Recreation received $6,500 (from the Gaston Town Endowment Fund and The Unrestricted Fund of the Community Foundation) to purchase playground equipment and picnic tables as well as support other park repairs.
Indiana Youth Institute received $6,660 (from Mutual Legacy Fund) to provide professional education for Delaware County youth-serving professionals.
Muncie Action Plan received $10,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation and MutualBank Charitable Foundation Fund) for operations.
Muncie Land Bank acquires abandoned and blighted properties for strategic redevelopment. In 2022, Muncie Land Bank acquired two properties with homes on the lots and, in turn, sold these properties to Vinny and El, who were interested and capable of making the improvements needed to turn the blighted properties around. Pictured, Vinny stands in front of his home, which he is currently rehabilitating.
Muncie Land Bank received $25,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, Bassett Family Fund, and Maxon Foundation Fund) to support operations.
National Inventors Hall of Fame received $5,211.10 (from the Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund, The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, Linda and Connie Gregory Fund, and Faye Wingate Fund) to support Camp Invention hosted at Selma Elementary School in the summer for students from across Delaware County and the surrounding counties.
PathStone Corporation received $15,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Fund, and Jack and Thelma Peckinpaugh Fund) for operating support for the financial coaching and housing counseling program.
Reach Yorktown Ministry received $1,000 (from the Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund) in support for the food bank.
Yorktown Kiwanis Club received $1,050 (from the Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund) to support equipment to assist in the community tax preparation services.
Youth Symphony Orchestras of East Central Indiana received $8,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, Gordon and Pam Cox Fund, and Charles and Claudia Sursa Unrestricted Endowment Fund) to support operations.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Grant requests are reviewed and approved quarterly. Community Grants are awarded to fund projects and programs for which there is a demonstrable community benefit in one of the following areas of interest: arts and culture, community betterment, economic development, education, and human services. The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. encourages philanthropy, assists donors in building an enduring source of charitable assets, and exercises leadership in directing resources to enhance the quality of life for residents of Muncie and Delaware County. Since 1985, community members and businesses have helped the Foundation grow our endowment to $83 million. Using the earnings on the endowment, the Foundation distributes grants to nonprofit organizations, including scholarships to support students through post-secondary education. To date, the Foundation has awarded nearly $65 million to enhance the quality of life of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
