David Sursa Leadership Award

The David Sursa Leadership Award was established in memory of David Sursa’s outstanding contribution to The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County. The purpose of the award is to reward, recognize, and encourage extraordinary leadership by a nonprofit board member displaying the characteristics and commitment to the community exhibited by David Sursa during his lifetime.

Nominees must live or work in Delaware County and their service must benefit Delaware County. Current board members of the Foundation are not eligible nominees. A $2,500 grant will be made to the nominating organization, in the recipient’s honor.

Nominations should include a narrative (no more than three pages) that summarizes the nominee’s length of board service, committee service, and leadership roles at the organization. It should also describe in detail the nominee’s role in leading the board toward sound governance and best practices, raising the necessary resources to fulfill the organization’s mission, addressing organizational challenges, and/or leading the development of innovative collaborations.

Nominations and supporting materials must be submitted by March 31 by email to commfound@cfmdin.org.

About David Sursa

As founding President of The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, David Sursa blazed the trail for the work and impact of the Foundation in the community. Mr. Sursa served in this role for the first seven years of the organization's history. His visionary leadership contributed greatly to the success of the Foundation and to the generous support it has provided to our community since the Foundation’s inception in 1985.

Mr. Sursa has been described as a quiet leader. He set an example through his acts of service to others and the professionalism he brought to everything he did. He led with integrity and inspired many others to do the same. He is remembered for his passion for business and the connection that it has to service in the community.
