Investing in Liberty Perry/Selma

The Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund was established in 2012 to ensure resources are available to benefit the local community. A committee of volunteers who live or work in Liberty or Perry Townships reviews grant requests that are focused on the local community. Donations may be directed to the Liberty-Perry Selma Town Endowment to grow the fund and increase future grantmaking.

Grants in Action

Campers explore the science of light and an array of illuminating inventions to engineer their own one-of-a-kind Glow Box display.

Grantee: National Inventors Hall of Fame
Camp Invention: Learning to be Inventors

This summer, 70 elementary-aged children became inventors at Camp Invention. Hosted by the National Inventors Hall of Fame, the week-long camp focuses on creativity and innovation. The camp took place at Selma Elementary School. Campers were guided through real-world challenges and the process of inventing solutions. They used creative thinking, prototyping, trial and error, evaluation, and presentation.

The Community Foundation awarded a $5,211.10 grant through the Community Grants program to support the 2024 summer camp. Funding was provided by the Liberty-Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund, The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, the Linda and Connie Gregory Fund, and the Faye Wingate Fund. The Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund Committee was enthusiastic about the program. While the camp was open to students from across Delaware County, the location provided Selma families with a summer program close to home.

Campers combine athletics, design, invention, and business for the win by creating their own unique sports ball game.

Camp Invention furthers the National Inventors Hall of Fame’s mission to honor those whose inventions have made the world a better place. Inductees’ stories inspire the next generation, advance the spirit of entrepreneurship, and ensure American ingenuity continues to thrive in the hands of coming generations.

Camp Invention also incorporates leadership building for older students. This year, middle school students served as Leaders-in-Training, assisting younger campers in their invention-creation. Licensed teachers, alongside the Leaders-in-Training, led campers through activities to practice skills as inventors.

Community Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations serving Muncie and Delaware County. Grants are awarded to address the broad needs of Muncie and Delaware County in arts and culture, community betterment, economic development, education, and human services. The Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund is one of many funds used to award Community Grants.
